Where our information comes from, and how we keep facts separate from recommendations.
Imported information
Basic facts for many places and walks — name, address, location, website, phone number, opening hours and mapped walking routes — are imported from OpenStreetMap, a map built by volunteers and made available under the Open Database Licence. Data © OpenStreetMap contributors.
Imported details can be out of date. Each imported listing shows a note until our team has checked it, and links back to its original source. We never invent opening hours, prices, reviews or walking statistics — if we can't confirm something, we leave it blank.
Walk distances
Where shown, distances for imported walks are measured from the route as drawn on OpenStreetMap. Time and difficulty are only shown once confirmed.
Photos
We don't copy photos from other websites. Until we have permission-cleared photography, listings use illustrative images, marked as such.
Recommendations are separate
Labels like "Landfall pick" and "Featured" are only ever added by our editors. Imported listings never receive them automatically.
